Cathy Terril Painter
"My paintings are about capturing the effects of light and color. I like to paint outdoors looking for dramatic lighting and interesting compositions.
My work is mainly impressionistic and I like to add a bit of expressionism to some of my pieces by pushing the color to make a strong statement. My favorite
mediums are oil and pastel, but I also work in watercolor and acrylic. Favorite subjects are landscapes, tobacco barns, still life, cats, and figures."
After graduating from the University of Wisconsin - Stout, Cathy moved to Jamaica and married her college sweetheart David, who was int he Peace Corps. After returning to
the states she and her husband had their son, Nathan, and in 1980 moved from Wisconsin to Northen Virginia. During this time she attended Northen Virginia Community College
and Bowie State University studying art and graphic design. She also became interested in decorative painting and did many shows selling her work. She was a member of the National
Society of Tole and Decorative Painters and in an art co-op in Reston Virginia for many years. After moving to North Beach, Marlyand in the 90's she studied with painters John
Ebersberger, Lee Boyton, and Bonnie Roth Anderson at the Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis. She also attended workshops given by Susan Sarback, found
of School of Light and Color.
