Silk Painting Class for Beginners—Save the Date – February 23, 2008, 9:30AM – 5PM

Painting on silk is a stress-free way to have fun and be creative! Learn the basic techniques and tools at this one-day workshop. No previous painting experience is necessary. Even if you have never picked up a paintbrush before, you can enjoy silk painting as you watch the dyes glide across the silk.

This beginner’s workshop will offer the basic silk painting techniques and vocabulary. Techniques will include: stabilizing silk, diluting dyes, applying resist, salt, alcohol and light to achieve controlled results, and steam setting dyes.

All of the supplies are provided for your convenience – except we ask participants to bring a roll of paper towels, an egg carton, and a bag lunch.

A more advanced class will be offered in the spring that will include more advanced techniques such as batik, thickened dyes, shibori, and the flower pot technique.

Leave your cares at the door, bring a friend, and step into a day of fun on February 23rd!

To register, contact Betty Leppin @ 410-867-6611 or betty_leppin@comcast.net or look for registration forms at ArtWorks @ 7th. Deadline for registration is February 15th.

Cost of the workshop is $95 plus a $25 supply fee. The number of registrants is limited and will be held at ArtWorks@7th classroom at 9128 Bay Avenue, North Beach.

Betty Leppin is the instructor for the silk painting workshop and has been silk painting for 5 years. What first started out as a hobby has turned into Betty’s full-time passion. She has attended several national workshops learning traditional and nontraditional silk painting techniques from fellow artists. Betty is a member of Silk Painters International (SPIN).
