Michael G. Stewart

Michael G. Stewart's art is a kaleidoscopic tapestry woven from the threads of nostalgia, medieval alchemy and the rebellious vibrancy of 1950s & 60s aesthetics. Michael's work has been a constant re-imagining of the fertile soil of his youth, mining the artifacts of classical renaissance masters, and merging them with the bold and irreverent visual spirit of 60s pop culture to create an artistic vision that is at once familiar, while simultaneously inviting his viewers to shake their heads in puzzled confusion. At times creating images influenced by the bold & vibrant language of the rebellious psychedelic era of his youth, Mr. Stewart is currently a more traditional printmaker, exploring the boundless possibilities inherent in the intricate detail of line, tone and texture he uses to find the heartbeat that pulses in the mastery of technique and imagination that lives in echoes of the past, while still resonating with the present. …..mostly, though, Michael just makes art that he likes.
