Tracey Vernon - Mixed Media
Mixed Media artist, Tracey Vernon, resides in Calvert County, Maryland with her husband and chocolate lab. Her artistry was nurtured in childhood after receiving an easel for Christmas when she was ten that catapulted her into a lifelong journey. Although the journey did not start out in the world of art, she was able to channel her creativity as she embarked lovingly into marriage, motherhood, and teaching.
After a 31 year career in education, two amazing grown children, an empty house, and a lot more time to foster her passion to paint, she finally became an artist. She found inspiration through her life experiences, scripture, music, poetry, and nature. It isn’t uncommon to discover a glimpse of these influences scribbled in an underpainting, peeking out of a collage, or quoted on the back of the canvas.
Her intuitive artwork and creative techniques allow others to connect personally and tell their own stories through her work. Others have noted that her art evokes strong emotion through movement, color, and texture. Figurative painting and soulful portraits are among her favorite subject matter, although she also adores painting coastal scenes and landscapes where she finds peace and solitude.
Tracey has been a member of the Calvert Artists’ Guild since 2018 where local art shows and sales helped launch her into a community of other artists. Plein Air painting groups, classes featuring various mediums and processes, and courses from local, well-known artists continued to give her new ways to express her emotions and navigate life through her art. Tracey’s art has been featured in articles and photographs in local newspapers from exhibits at Artworks@7th Gallery in North Beach, MD where she currently sells her work.
The process of creating art for her is powerful, healing, and emotional. It is her hope that others experience the same effects when they look at her paintings.
